Only in primary care. Since 2020, NPs who meet Florida's eligibility requirements can register for autonomous practice limited to primary care, including family medicine, general pediatrics, and general internal medicine. The requirements include, within the preceding five years, at least 3,000 supervised hours of clinical practice and graduate-level coursework, or the equivalent, in differential diagnosis and pharmacology. Outside federal facilities, Miami's transplant, oncology, cardiology, and critical care roles remain under a supervisory protocol no matter how experienced you are.
Should I search Miami-Dade and Broward together?
Search both, decide on one. They are separate counties with separate hospital systems, and I-95 traffic between them is unforgiving at shift-change times. Living in one county and working in the other is a lifestyle decision worth making deliberately rather than discovering after you sign.
What is safety-net work like for NPs in Miami?
In the public hospital system and at federally qualified health centers, it can mean patients who arrive without insurance, later presentations, more advanced disease at first contact, and more time spent on medication access, charity-care pathways, and social work coordination.
