Two patient populations define the Denver market and they barely overlap. The first is the metro itself: young, active, largely insured, and heavy on orthopedics, sports medicine, and preventive primary care. The second arrives by referral — rural Colorado, Wyoming, and the western plains have few specialists and long drive times, so complex cases route to the Front Range for care that cannot be delivered locally. NPs staffing rural clinics, critical access hospitals, and telehealth links along that corridor are the connective tissue between the two, and many of those sites carry federal shortage designations.

1. 01Anschutz Medical Campus, Aurora

   An unusual concentration: the university hospital, Children's Hospital Colorado, the Rocky Mountain Regional VA, and the medical school share one campus. Academic and subspecialty NP roles cluster here more tightly than anywhere else in the state.

2. 02Central Denver and Cherry Creek

   Denver Health's safety-net campus plus a dense private and specialty outpatient market. Shortest commutes and the most walkable part of the metro.

3. 03South metro — Denver Tech Center, Lone Tree, Highlands Ranch

   Commercially insured suburban ambulatory volume along the I-25 corridor, with newer facilities and a family-heavy panel.

4. 04Northwest — Boulder, Broomfield, Westminster

   A separate hospital footprint with a strong research and biotech presence in Boulder. Its own housing market and its own commute; not a Denver suburb in practice.

5. 05The mountain corridor and rural Front Range

   Summit, Eagle, and the I-70 resort counties plus the eastern plains. Critical access hospitals, rural health clinics, and shortage-area designations — where full practice authority genuinely changes what a job looks like.
