Using This Page

How to use this page

Listings here are grouped by where or how care is delivered, so a role can also appear under a specialty or a job type. Use the state links to narrow by licensure state, then open a listing to confirm the exact setting, schedule and any travel or technology requirements, since employers describe these differently. If nothing fits today, a job alert for this category emails you new matches.

Common Questions

Outpatient NP Jobs FAQ

How many outpatient NP jobs are available?

There are currently 42 outpatient NP positions listed on NP Hiring. These include private practices, community health centers, group practices, and integrated care clinics across the country.

What do outpatient NP jobs pay?

Nationally, nurse practitioners earn a median annual wage of $132,300 (BLS OEWS, Nurse Practitioners (29-1171), median annual wage, May 2025). Outpatient NP pay varies with experience, practice setting, geography, and employment type, so compare pay listing by listing using the ranges employers post. Private practice pay often depends on productivity or collections, so read how each listing structures it.

What does a typical outpatient NP schedule look like?

Clinic hours are set by the practice, and listings state whether evenings, weekends, or call are part of the role. Ask about daily visit expectations and documentation time, which vary widely by practice type.

Can outpatient NPs start their own private practice?

Outpatient experience is the usual preparation for private practice, and any practice arrangement a state requires shapes how an independent practice is structured. Practice authority is set state by state, and the tier alone does not settle what applies to you. The AANP State Practice Environment classifies 27 states + DC as Full Practice, where state law lets nurse practitioners evaluate patients, diagnose, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and initiate and manage treatments, including prescribing medications and controlled substances, under the exclusive licensure authority of the state board of nursing. Several of those states first require a transition period of collaborative or supervised practice. Most other states require a collaborative agreement, supervision or delegation involving a physician or another health provider, and several of them offer a route out of it after a set amount of experience. Check the practice-authority details for the state you are browsing on its state jobs page, or in the Full Practice Authority guide, before relying on the tier.
