Oncology nurse practitioners manage patients through cancer treatment and beyond — symptom management, treatment monitoring, toxicity checks for chemotherapy and immunotherapy, and survivorship care in partnership with medical oncologists.

Requirements & certification
- Graduate NP degree with national certification through AANP or ANCC, on the track matching the practice population (family or adult-gerontology; pediatric via PNCB in children’s centers)
- The optional AOCNP credential through ONCC (Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation) recognizes oncology NP practice hours
- Active state APRN licensure and DEA registration
- Employers screen for chemotherapy/immunotherapy competencies and oncologic emergency recognition
